Hospice & Palliative Care: The Solaris Approach to Uncommon Care

Celebrating National Care at Home Month & Hospice & Palliative Care Week

November marks National Care at Home Month, and within it, we observe Hospice & Palliative Care Week — a time that recognizes the meaningful role these services play in the lives of patients and families. It is a week dedicated to honoring comfort, dignity, and the professionals who support individuals through specialized care, emotional guidance, and compassionate presence.

The Meaning of Hospice Care

Hospice care focuses on comfort, peace, and quality of life. Rather than concentrating on procedures or intervention, hospice emphasizes ease — relief of discomfort, emotional reassurance, clear communication, and a gentle approach that reduces stress for both patients and loved ones. Hospice teams bring together nurses, social workers, chaplains, CNAs, volunteers, and medical professionals who work together to create moments of calm, connection, and clarity.

A Circle of Support for Families

Families often express that hospice gives them something invaluable: confidence. Confidence to ask questions, to understand what is happening, to feel supported, and to make decisions with guidance rather than fear. Hospice care helps families feel prepared, informed, and included. Whether it’s emotional support, spiritual comfort, symptom relief, or a comforting conversation, families are never left without someone to lean on.

The Role of Palliative Care

Palliative care specializes in improving quality of life for individuals with serious illness. It focuses on relief from pain, anxiety, symptoms, and stress — working alongside ongoing treatments. Many patients appreciate having a palliative care team because it allows them to preserve stability, maintain independence, and continue daily life with less discomfort. It is a supportive layer of care designed to bring balance, comfort, and improved well-being.

Care That Respects Every Individual

What makes palliative care meaningful is personalization. No two patients are the same, and no two families need the exact same type of support. Palliative care teams listen, understand goals, address fears, and create plans tailored to each individual’s needs — physical, emotional, and spiritual. This thoughtful, respectful approach helps patients feel seen, heard, and understood.
